The Oscar ceremonies were noteworthy for a number of reasons, but the biggest news was the Best Picture award for the movie, Spotlight. Chronicling a team of Boston newspaper reporters on the quest for answers in a child sex abuse scandal, it has given us another way to broach the most distasteful subject of all. There are children in our community who are still being sexually abused as you read this and we all have a role to play in protecting them.
2015 marked 20 years since CACTX began operations. The San Antonio Express News ran an open-letter to President George W. Bush authored by Joy Rauls and CACTX Board President Joe Cosgrove, Jr. This letter exemplifies our gratitude to our 74th Texas Legislature for adopting the CAC model into statute and establishing CACs as the best practice approach to working these difficult cases. With the passage of SB 81 in 1995, Texas was set on the trajectory to become the national leader in this movement.
Did you know:
Out of 43,000 child victims served at a CAC in Texas each year: 67%
of these children are female.
